Much has changed in the latest versions of Autocad. Indeed the classic version you may have used in the past has been discontinued in favour of a much more complex ribbon mode.
Whilst Ribbon mode does have it's good points, it's not so easy to locate a command as in classic mode. Many commands are initially hidden from view under pull out menus.
So we combine the best of both worlds by teaching command short cut keys which are easy to remember. This makes learning easier because the first part of where to find a command becomes unnecessary. We can spend more time on learning how to use commands. You can always go back to the icons later if you prefer.
Indeed our own tests have shown an improvement in drafting speed of 20% when compared with ribbon mode.That's one of the reasons why in house training can be better for you or your company/organisation.
