Autocad software and "File not valid" errors

You get "File not valid" error when you try to open a file with Autocad. This will be because the Autocad software used to create the file was a higher version than your own. You may be able to avoid the cost of upgrading your software by asking your customer to go to Autocad's file pull down menu, then to files of type on the bottom right hand arrow selection, and save the file in a version which you can read. See the table below.

Autocad software versions have frequently changed over many years. However Autocad files saved from different Autocad software versions have not changed at the same rate as the software. If you are trying to load an Autocad drawing file and you see a "File not valid error", the following table should help you to understand why you cannot load this Autocad drawing into your current Autocad software.

Autocad version 2011 reads 2010 files or earlier versions

Autocad version 2010 reads 2010 files or earlier versions

Autocad version 2009 reads 2007 files or earlier versions

Autocad version 2006 reads 2004 files or earlier versions

Autocad version 2005 reads 2004 files or earlier versions

Autocad version 2004 reads 2004 files or earlier versions

Autocad version 2002 reads 2000 files or earlier versions

Autocad version 2000i reads 2000 files or earlier versions

Autocad version 2000 reads 2000 files or earlier versions

As you load an old version Autocad drawing file into a newer version, it will be automatically converted for use wih your newer version.

If you see a "file not valid error" it is because your version of Autocad software is not a high enough version to read the file. You can choose to upgrade your software. Check with us to see if an Autocad upgrade from your version would be possible. Upgrading would be at a lower cost than purchacing a new copy.
