Autocad software and "File not valid" errors
It can be a show stopping moment if you have just received a file from an important customer and you get "File not valid" error. You may be able to avoid the cost of upgrading your software by asking your customer to go to file pull down menu then save as in his version of Autocad. Ask him to change the file type using the Autocad upgrade table below.
Autocad software versions have frequently changed over many years. However Autocad files saved from different Autocad software versions have not changed at the same rate as the software. If you are trying to load an Autocad drawing file and you see a "File not valid error", the following table should help you to understand why you cannot load this Autocad drawing into your current Autocad software.
Autocad version 2010 reads 2010 files or earlier verions
Autocad version 2009 reads 2007 files or earlier verions
Autocad version 2006 reads 2004 files or earlier verions
Autocad version 2005 reads 2004 files or earlier verions
Autocad version 2004 reads 2004 files or earlier verions
Autocad version 2002 reads 2000 files or earlier verions
Autocad version 2000i reads 2000 files or earlier verions
Autocad version 2000 reads 2000 files or earlier verions
As you load an old version Autocad drawing file into a newer version, it will be automatically converted for use wih your newer version.
