There is a natural tendency for people wanting to take 3D CAD courses so that they can present employers with the highest CAD qualifications possible. Without doubt there are CAD jobs that do require these skills. However there are more current vacancies in companies that only use 2D CAD, than there are in 3D. So you have more chance of getting a job in 2D CAD.
Also there is no accepted standard for 3D CAD in the way that Autocad LT is accepted for 2D CAD work.
